Bearing in mind the responsibility of companies operating in Peru to contribute to the development of Peru, as well as the commercial benefits of CSR, one of the Chamber’s main objectives is the promotion of CSR in Peru.
To that end the Chamber is involved in various CSR campaigns and events. For example in 2005 the Chamber developed an anti-piracy campaign in collaboration with Cedro, Indecopi, SNI and the British Embassy.
In May 2006 we held a CSR event with the aim of giving Peruvian business people an overview of what is and isn’t Social Responsibility. The event included the presentation of specific case studies by speakers from Peru 2021, Business in the Community, Cedro and Universidad Pacifico amongst others.
In November 2006 we held a forum in collaboration with the Canadian Chamber of Commerce focused on the mining exploration sector and how they could implement social responsibility practises in Peru.
In March, 2007 we organised the second conference on the environment of the British Embassy in Lima.
In addition, for the last five years the Chamber has represented a British charity, Project Trust, hosting volunteers who come to Peru for a year to work with children in Aldeas throughout the provinces, providing them with logistical and emotional support.
In January 2007 we were proud to be able to help the Anita Goulden Hogar in Piura, an aldea which was established by a British woman to help children with disabilities. In our December, 2006 Chamber Christmas party our members were offered the opportunity to bring gifts for the children of the Hogar which we then delivered. We also raised over $500 for the Hogar through the annual Caledonian Ball held in November, 2006.
In 2007, we have started our first ever Social Responsibility committee which we plan to be a space for members to actively exchange ideas and experiences and to be a source of ideas and suggestions for future events and workshops which will help our members to improve the practise of Social Responsibility in their businesses. |
