On February 12 the chamber held its second round table with the Minister of Environment, Dr Antonio Brack.
During the meeting, the Minister of Environment talked about different issues such as the importance of changing deforestation policies in the Amazon forest. He highlighted the current efforts of ecolodges, as an initiative to generate value to our natural resources.
Regarding agriculture in Peru, Dr Brack said there were many actions that damaged the environment among them the indiscriminate use of insecticides. He also revealed that the future of Peru in the food market is in organic products, coffee being one of the most important.
Likewise, the Minister, emphasised that one of the main problems in the country is water contamination and he highlighted the work of numerous companies in many different sectors, including mining where they have implemented projects for water recycling in order to avoid the problem getting worse.
Dr Brack agreed that Peru, through the Ministery of Environment and with the participation of regional and local governments, has the challenge to reduce and resolve problems like air contamination, informal mining, sewage and mining residues among others.
