Britlan is the network of bilateral British Chambers of Commerce in Latin America which was set up in 2003 with the objective of promoting the collective interests of all members of British Chambers throughout Latin America.
Each Chamber of Commerce retains complete autonomy and their own identity and objectives however the Chambers undertake certain joint initiatives collaboratively under the BRITLAN “umbrella” and maintain constant communication in order to exchange ideas and provide mutual support. Crucial to this communication is the annual conference of General Managers and Executive Directors which takes place in a different member country every year. This meeting is a valuable opportunity to exchange views, discuss the activities that each Chamber has undertaken individually and discuss activities that could be undertaken collaboratively, such as sharing international speakers and articles for our magazines.
It is also an opportunity to evaluate viable services which could be offered to all British Chamber members in Latin America.
The chambers that are currently active within Britlan are Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela. In the future we also hope to be able to include the British Chambers in Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Uruguay, and Paraguay as well as of Southern Floriday to give full regional coverage. All of these chambers are professionally managed and financially self-sufficient with executive directors or general managers reporting to Boards of Directors made up from among the CEO’s and directors of the major British companies active in each country.
